This body of work originates from the artist’s experience of walking her dog on St Kilda beach and noticing the fish shaped sushi soya bottles littering the sand. Ryan pondered man’s less than glorious impact on our environment and wondered if this plastic waste ever made it as far north as the Arctic Circle. This prompted an investigation into polar bears. This exhibition features twelve oil paintings of varying sizes depicting polar bears in an environmentally challenged world. The bears are painted from either photographs taken by the artist during visits to enclosures or from figurines.
