Janita Ryan is a multi-disciplinarian artist based in Naarm (Melbourne). Her art practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, photography and bookish zines. She has a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) VCA, University of Melbourne, Diploma of Visual Art (Painting) Victoria University of Technology, and a Degree of Graphic Design, Swinburne University.

Her most recent project, the Aerogramme Project, pivots around travelling on public transport to get to a chosen destination. She embroiders AI generated images of this destination onto facsimile aerogrammes whilst on the move, thus maintaining a low carbon footprint. Upon arrival the aerogramme and the real destination are compared and AI’s looseness with the truth becomes evident. This project is gently performative as it sparks conversations with fellow commuters about climate change and the perils of AI. All is documented into a zine afterwards.

Her work is held in the public collections of the Wangaratta Art Gallery, The State Library of Victoria and the Student Union of Melbourne University.
